4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Make your long-form resume or CV clear and specific about dates, duties, and hours, since the agency will not assume anything.
  • Claim veterans' preference in the online questionnaire if it applies, and attach the required proof.
  • Answer every questionnaire question and upload all required documents by the closing date, because missing items can cost you points.
