Who can apply: The public.

The job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or a person who owes allegiance to the U.S.

Experience: You need 6 months or more of general experience and 6 months or more of specialized experience. Specialized experience means helping run recreation activities, such as preparing calendars, keeping attendance records, or giving schedule information. Paid, unpaid, volunteer, and part-time work all count, but you must list the duties and total hours per week for each job. The pay grade is NF 2, but the announcement does not tie the experience to a specific grade.

Education: You can use education instead of experience. You need 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in recreation-related courses, such as basic psychology, group dynamics, physical education, or arts and crafts. The school must be accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting body.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification
  • Bloodborne Pathogen Certification
  • Navy Basic Fitness Certification (within 90 days of hire)
  • Valid State driver's license (required to operate motor vehicles)

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes today (November 5, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: Your resume is checked against the minimum requirements and rated on knowledge, skills, and ability. You also answer an occupational questionnaire that rates yourself, and your resume must support those answers or you may be rated lower or removed from consideration. The selecting official may choose to interview applicants.

Apply on USAJOBS ↗
4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • List exact dates, total hours per week, and full addresses for every job, or your experience may not count.
  • Send transcripts showing at least 12 semester hours if you use education, from an accredited school.
  • Answer the questionnaire honestly, because your resume must support each answer.
