Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply. Citizenship is required at the time you apply.
Experience: The announcement does not set a number of years. You must be able to learn and do the job, such as collecting admission fees, making change, filling out forms, assisting with swimming lessons, and watching patrons. Part-time, unpaid, and volunteer work counts if you list the duties and hours per week. Only experience gained by the closing date counts.
Education: No education requirement is stated. If you use education to qualify, it must come from a school accredited by a recognized accrediting body, and you must submit transcripts.
Licenses and certifications:
- Current nationally recognized lifeguard certification covering lifesaving and water rescue
- Current nationally recognized basic first aid certification
- Current nationally recognized CPR certification covering adult, child, and infant procedures
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes today (November 4, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your application package (resume, documents, and questionnaire answers) is rated into Category 1 (Qualified), Category 2 (Highly Qualified), or Category 3 (Best Qualified), based on the quality, depth, and complexity of your experience and education. If your documents do not support your questionnaire answers, you may be rated not qualified or insufficient information, and your score may be lowered if your qualifications appear inflated.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must list dates and hours per week for each job, or your application may be marked insufficient.
- Keep your resume to two pages or less, use 10-point font or larger, and put your full name on it.
- Make sure your lifeguard, first aid, and CPR certifications are current, since they are required to qualify and must be kept up during employment.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
