Recreation Aid
U.S. Air Forces, Europe · Department of the Air Force
This job in plain English
This is a recreation aid job with the 31st Force Support Squadron's Outdoor Recreation program at Aviano Air Base in Italy, part of U.S. Air Forces, Europe. It is a non-appropriated fund (NAF) job, which means it is paid from money the base recreation activities earn, not from Congress. The job includes evening, weekend, and holiday shifts, and there are few openings.
Can you apply?
Yes, if you are a U.S. citizen: this job is open to everyone.
- Open to everyoneAny U.S. citizen or national can apply. Some jobs also accept non-citizens; the announcement says so.
The job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, or a citizen of a NATO country with a valid U.S. permanent resident card and a Social Security Number, and you must be at Aviano Air Base on orders; Italian citizens may not apply for these NAF jobs. You must also show proper documents that you are already a supported member of Aviano Air Base, since the squadron is not currently providing logistical support.
What you would do
- Set up recreation areas for scheduled activities
- Record attendance and take reservations and payments for trips and tours
- Check safety systems, tools, and equipment at indoor and outdoor facilities
- Lend equipment to participants and check it when it is returned
- Post schedule announcements and answer participant questions
- Take inventory of recreation supplies and equipment
Do you qualify for NF-1?
With experience: You need practical knowledge of recreational activities, rules, and procedures. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, counts. Experience handling cash and using or maintaining recreation equipment is desirable but not required.
With education: Education cannot be used in place of experience for this job. Education from a foreign college or university can count if you show proof it is equivalent to a U.S. education.
How to apply well
What to send:
- Proof of citizenship or residency
- PCS orders
- Resume that clearly describes your recreation experience, including volunteer work
- Cover letter, if you want to include one
- Other documents that support your claims, such as a DD-214, diploma, license, professional certification, or Soggiorno (Italian residence permit), if they apply to you
How you will be rated: Your resume, supporting documents, and questionnaire answers are reviewed to see if you meet the minimum qualifications, then your level of experience is compared against your questionnaire answers to rank you. If the review finds you have inflated your qualifications or experience, you may lose consideration, and errors or omissions may affect your eligibility.
Tips for this job:
- Include documents showing you are already a supported member of Aviano Air Base, or your application may not be considered.
- Upload proof of citizenship or residency and PCS orders, because missing documents make the application incomplete.
- Describe your recreation experience clearly in your resume, including any volunteer work, since education cannot replace experience here.
