Do you qualify for FV-G to FV-K?
With experience: To qualify at FV-H (GS-11/12), you need one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-G (GS-5/7/9). Specialized experience means work that gave you the skills needed for this job, such as asbestos or mold abatement, fall protection, electrical or fire safety, or writing safety processes. Higher levels (FV-I through FV-K) require one year of specialized experience at the level just below.
With education: You can qualify with an engineering bachelor's degree from a program accredited by ABET, or by completing calculus and advanced science courses in five of seven listed engineering areas. Other options include professional engineer registration or licensure, passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, 60 semester hours of approved science and engineering courses, or a related science degree plus at least 1 year of engineering experience. For FV-H and above, a Ph.D. with three years of graduate study can also substitute for specialized experience.
