Who can apply: The public.
Open to all U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals. The announcement is open to the public.
Experience: For SV-I (GS-13), you need one year of specialized experience at SV-H or GS-12 level, such as managing a litigation caseload and advising program managers on legal risk. For SV-J (GS-14) and SV-K (GS-15), you need one year at the next lower level, including developing litigation strategy and leading legal teams for SV-J, or serving as lead counsel and directing attorneys and paralegals for SV-K. Private sector experience can count if it is equivalent.
Education: A law degree (J.D. or LL.B.) from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school is required at all grade levels.
Licenses and certifications:
- Active membership in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a state, U.S. territory, U.S. Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 3 days (November 6, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You will be rated on how well you meet the qualifications, based on your resume, questionnaire, and required assessments. You must complete the USA Hire assessments and meet the cut score, and overstating your experience or cheating can get you removed.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Show each job's start and end month and year and weekly hours on your resume, or your application may be marked insufficient.
- Include your law school transcript or an itemized course list with your application by the closing time, and attach your certificate of bar membership.
- Do not copy text from the announcement into your resume, because it will not show your own qualifications.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
