Who can apply: The public.

The job is open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. may apply. You must be a U.S. citizen.

Experience: You need at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-08, the next lower grade. It must cover applying law enforcement procedures to teach laws and rules, preparing instruction methods and course materials, and teaching investigative techniques. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, counts.

Education: No basic education requirement is stated. You must still graduate from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Uniformed Police Training Program.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Non-Lethal Weapons Instructor and Small Arms Marksmanship Instructor/Range Safety Officer, or equivalent, currently held
  • EVOC Instructor, CPR Instructor, and/or First Aid Instructor, held now or obtainable
  • Antiterrorism Training Supervisor (AT TRASUP), or at least Journeyman Instructor Qualified, held now or obtainable
  • Navy Instructor Training Course (NITC) NEC 805A, graduated or able to attend and graduate
  • Current valid U.S. driver's license and a state motor vehicle driver license

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 4 days (November 9, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: HR reviews your resume and supporting documents to see whether you meet the listed qualifications. Qualified applicants go to the hiring manager, who may interview them. If you inflate your experience or qualifications, you may be found ineligible.

Apply on USAJOBS ↗
4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Your resume must show specific instructor work with dates, hours per week, and any federal pay plan, series, and grade.
  • The subject line in the How to Apply section says 26-MJP, but the announcement number says 27-MJP. Confirm the correct number with the agency before you send anything.
  • Include copies of every license, certificate, or transcript you claim, or you may be rated ineligible.
