Who can apply: Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL), The public.
The job is open to the public, but the agency says only U.S. citizens, nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply. Federal employees whose job or agency was eliminated can get priority through career transition programs (CTAP or ICTAP).
Experience: No specific length of training or experience is required. You must show training or experience that gives you the knowledge, skills, and ability to do this work, with detailed descriptions on your resume. Applicants are rated under the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
Education: This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes tomorrow (November 6, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your answers to the occupational questionnaire are first checked against a minimum qualification screen. Applicants who pass are rated on job elements such as equipment repair, blueprint reading, measurement and layout, technical practices, troubleshooting, tool use, and working without more than normal supervision. Applicants are rated ineligible if they fail the screen, if the resume is longer than two pages, or if required documents are missing.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Describe your pipe, blueprint, and machine tool work in detail, because the agency will not assume your experience.
- Keep your resume to two pages and list the start and end month and year and hours per week for each job.
- Include proof of career transition eligibility if you claim it, since missing documents make you ineligible.
