Can you apply?

Yes, if you are a U.S. citizen: this job is open to everyone.

  • Open to everyoneAny U.S. citizen or national can apply. Some jobs also accept non-citizens; the announcement says so.

Open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen, national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.

What you would do

  • Oversee diagnostic evaluations, medication management, and crisis intervention.
  • Ensure compliance with VA, VHA, VISN, and facility policies and accreditation standards.

Do you qualify for VM-15?

With education: You need a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an approved school. You also need residency training in an approved core specialty program that leads to board certification eligibility. Other paths include approved training followed by two years of independent practice, or non-U.S. training followed by three years of verified U.S. independent practice.

Licenses and certifications you need:

  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or D.C.

How to apply well

What to send:

  • SF-50 if you are a current federal employee

  • DD-214 showing dates and character of service if you claim veterans' preference
  • SF-15 with proof if you claim 10-point veterans' preference
  • Active duty separation documents if you expect discharge within 120 days and claim preference

How you will be rated: You will be rated on how well you meet the qualifications. Your application, resume, C.V., and other documents will be verified, and errors or omissions may hurt your chances. Tips for this job:

  • Attach a C.V. or resume that clearly shows your residency, board certification, and license details.
  • If you claim veterans' preference, send your DD-214 and SF-15 with proof, since documentation is required to award it.
