Who can apply: The public.
Open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. may apply.
Experience: You must have completed an accredited pediatrics residency, plus equivalent experience and training of at least 4 years. You must also have had at least one year of supervised direct clinical work after your medical degree. Experience cannot replace the required pediatrics residency.
Education: You need a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or equivalent degree from a U.S. or Canadian school accredited by a recognized body. A foreign medical degree must show equivalency, such as ECFMG certification, a fifth pathway certificate, or passing the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). Schools must be accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized body.
Licenses and certifications:
- Current, active, full, and unrestricted physician license or registration from a U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 4 days (November 9, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You are rated on how well you meet the qualifications, using your resume, supporting documents, and online questionnaire answers. Missing documents make your package incomplete, and inflated qualifications can remove you from consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Submit your official transcript with your application if you qualify through education, or you will be rated ineligible.
- Upload your physician license and BLS certification, since missing either makes you ineligible.
- Keep your resume to two pages and list hours per week for each job, or it may be removed or marked incomplete.
