Who can apply: The public.

This job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. Non-citizens may be hired only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited.

Experience: You must have completed residency training in an accredited core specialty program that leads to board certification eligibility. Other paths include one year of approved post-medical school training plus two years of independent practice in the U.S., or foreign residency training plus at least three years of verified independent practice in the U.S. The announcement does not list a general grade level, but the pay scale is VM 15.

Education: You need a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from a school approved by the VA for the year you finished. Foreign medical graduates must meet Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirements for their graduation year.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

Closes in 312 days (September 7, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

The announcement may close before the listed closing date of 09/07/2027 at 11:59 PM ET if the position is filled another way.

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: You will be rated on how well you meet the listed qualifications. Your application, resume, CV and other documents will be verified, and errors or missing information may hurt your chances. Pre-employment reference checks may also be done.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • If you want student loan repayment, check EDRP eligibility rules and apply within four months of starting.
  • Make sure your resume or CV shows all residency training dates and your full license details.
  • If you cannot apply online before the closing date, contact Kassie Ingram at 816-861-4700 X53838 and include the announcement number in the notes.
