Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply. You must prove U.S. citizenship.
Experience: You must have completed accredited residency training in Family Practice and have equivalent experience and training of at least 4 years. Experience cannot replace the required residency. You also need at least one year of supervised clinical work after your medical degree, such as an internship or first year of residency.
Education: You need a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or an equivalent degree, from an accredited school in the U.S. or Canada. A foreign medical degree must be equivalent to U.S. schools. Proof can be permanent ECFMG certification, a fifth pathway certificate, or passing the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. You must also complete accredited Family Practice residency training.
Licenses and certifications:
- Current, active, full, and unrestricted physician license or registration from a U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certifications such as ALS do not replace BLS.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 4 days (November 9, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: After the closing date, your resume, supporting documents, and questionnaire answers will be reviewed to see if you meet the qualifications. If the reviewer decides you have inflated your experience or qualifications, you may lose consideration. Missing documents or errors may make you ineligible.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- If you qualify through education, you must upload your official transcript with your application or you will be rated ineligible.
- Upload a copy of your physician license and BLS card, because a missing license copy can make you ineligible.
- Keep your resume to two pages or less and list hours per week for each job, or it may be removed or marked incomplete.
