Who can apply: The public.

The job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. Non-citizens may be hired only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited. Veterans' preference applies when candidates are about equally qualified.

Experience: The announcement does not require a set number of years of experience. Instead, you must have finished residency training. Two alternate routes count time in practice: one year of post-medical-school training followed by two years of independent practice in the U.S., or, for non-US residency graduates, at least three years of verified independent practice in the U.S.

Education: You need a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an approved school. You must also have completed a residency in an accredited program that leads to board certification eligibility. Board certification in diagnostic radiology is required.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia
  • Board certification in diagnostic radiology
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, maintained during employment

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 86 days (January 29, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

The first referral cut-off is 11/19/26, with more cut-offs every 2 weeks, and the announcement may close early if the position is filled another way.

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: You will be rated on how well you meet the listed qualifications. Your application, resume, and C.V. will be verified, and errors or missing information may hurt your chances. The agency also runs pre-employment reference checks.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Apply early, since referrals go out at cut-off dates every 2 weeks starting 11/19/26.
  • Upload your C.V. or resume, and note that the 2-page limit does not apply here.
  • If you claim veterans' preference, upload your DD-214 and select the preference in the questionnaire.
