Who can apply: The public.

This job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.

Experience: Preferred, not required: board certification in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology from the American Board of Pathology, plus more than 2 years of experience in the last 5 years.

Education: You need a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an approved, accredited school. You must also complete an approved residency training program. Other paths are allowed, such as one year of approved post-medical-school training followed by two years of independent practice in the U.S., or non-US residency training followed by three years of verified practice in the U.S.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 3 days (November 6, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

This announcement may close before the posted closing date if the position is filled through other means.

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: You will be rated on how well you meet the qualifications listed. Your application, resume, CV and supporting documents will be verified, and errors or omissions may affect your consideration or result in an ineligible rating. Pre-employment reference checks are performed, and veterans' preference applies when candidates are approximately equal.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Apply online through USAJOBS and upload your CV or resume before the closing date
  • If you claim veterans' preference, select it in the questionnaire and attach your DD-214 or required documents
  • If you rely on education, list only degrees from schools accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting body
