Do you qualify for VN?
With experience: For the entry level (PA-I), no experience beyond the basic requirements is needed. PA-II requires 2 years of successful practice as a Physician Assistant, and PA-III requires 3 years of practice, or a residency or doctoral degree with 1 year of PA practice.
With education: A master's degree in any discipline, or a bachelor's degree in any discipline plus 1 year of experience as a Physician Assistant, meets the basic requirement. A PA post-graduate residency or a doctoral degree in a health-related field can help you reach the PA-II or PA-III level. Education must come from a school accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Licenses and certifications you need:
- Passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE), or are in the process of taking it
- Full and unrestricted license to practice in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or D.C., or will hold one
- Current state registration, if the state requires it to keep the license active
How to apply well
What to send:
- Long-form resume or curriculum vitae (CV); the 2-page resume limit does not apply
- Transcript, if you use education to qualify
- License or professional certification
- DD-214 if you claim veterans' preference
- SF-15 with proof, if you claim 10-point veterans' preference
How you will be rated: You will be rated on how well you meet the listed qualifications. Your application, resume, and supporting documents will be verified, and errors or missing information may lower your rating or make you ineligible. Veterans and preference-eligible candidates get preference when qualifications are approximately equal, and reference checks are performed.
Tips for this job:
- Make your resume or CV specific about your PA experience, with dates and hours, because the VA does not assume experience.
- If you use a foreign degree, you must send a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript.
- If you claim veterans' preference, attach your DD-214 and, for 10-point preference, the SF-15 with proof.
