Who can apply: The public.
The job is open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply. You must prove U.S. citizenship.
Experience: You need at least one full year of work as a certified Physician Assistant. The work must include physical exams, reviewing lab and imaging results, carrying out care plans based on clinical guidelines, and prescribing medications. The announcement says this experience is typical of GS-11 level work.
Education: Graduation from a physician assistant program accredited by ARC-PA, at a school with recognized accreditation. Education from a foreign school must be formally evaluated as equal to a U.S. accredited program, or receive full credit at a U.S. accredited college.
Licenses and certifications:
- Current, active, full and unrestricted Physician Assistant license or registration from a state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory
- Successful completion of the NCCPA certification exam, with continuing medical education and recertification kept current
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current federal employees in the 0603 series since September 27, 2017 or earlier may be exempt from the license requirement, with documentation
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 16 days (November 19, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your full application package, including your resume, supporting documents and questionnaire answers, is reviewed to check whether you meet the basic and specialized requirements. Inflating your qualifications or experience can cost you consideration. Missing documents or incomplete information can make you ineligible.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must be two pages or less and show month and year dates, employer, job title, and hours per week, or it may be marked incomplete.
- Upload a copy of your PA license or certification with your application, or you will be rated ineligible.
- Write your resume in plain language and avoid acronyms, because the agency will not assume what you did.
