Who can apply: The public.
Only U.S. citizens, nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. may apply. You must give proof of U.S. citizenship.
Experience: You must have completed an accredited residency in anesthesiology plus equivalent experience and training of at least 4 years. Experience cannot replace the required residency. You must also have at least one year of supervised clinical work after medical school.
Education: You need a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree, or an equivalent degree, from an accredited school in the U.S. or Canada. Foreign medical degrees must be shown to be equivalent to U.S. accredited schools, such as by ECFMG certification or passing the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Education cannot replace experience at this grade.
Licenses and certifications:
- Current, active, full, unrestricted physician license from a state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
