Who can apply: The public.

This job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or owe allegiance to the U.S., and you must provide proof of citizenship.

Experience: You need one year of specialized experience. This means work such as carrying out physical therapy treatment plans, teaching physical therapy programs, or writing status reports. The announcement says this type of work is typical of the next lower grade, GS-06.

Education: One full year of graduate-level education in a related field, such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Kinesiotherapy, Sports Medicine, or Exercise Science. You can also combine education and experience: divide your months of experience by 12, divide your graduate semester hours by 18, and add the two percentages to reach at least 100%. Foreign education must be evaluated by a recognized private evaluator or receive full U.S. accredited credit.

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 9 days (November 13, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: Your resume, supporting documents and questionnaire responses are reviewed to see if you meet the qualifications. If the agency finds you have inflated your experience or qualifications, you may lose consideration, and missing documents or errors can make your application incomplete or ineligible.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Your resume must be two pages or less and must show the hours per week for each job.
  • If you qualify through education, attach your transcript or you will be rated ineligible.
  • List only schools accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
