Who can apply: The public.
Open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply. You must prove U.S. citizenship.
Experience: One year of specialized experience: work that involved putting physical therapy treatment plans into action and teaching physical therapy programs or writing status reports. The announcement says this is typical of GS-6 work, the next lower grade.
Education: One full year of graduate-level education in a field directly related to the job, such as Physical Therapy, Kinesiotherapy, Sports Medicine, Exercise Science, or Kinesiology. You can also combine education and experience: divide your months of experience by 12, divide your graduate semester hours by 18, and add the two percentages. The total must be at least 100%.
Licenses and certifications:
- Current, active, valid and unrestricted license or certification as a Physical Therapy Assistant from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes tomorrow (November 5, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your application package (resume, supporting documents, and questionnaire answers) is reviewed to check whether you meet the qualifications. If the agency decides you have inflated your qualifications or experience, you may lose consideration, and missing or incorrect items may make you ineligible.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Make sure your resume lists hours per week for each job and stays within two pages, or your application may be marked incomplete.
- If you qualify through education, upload your transcripts, and upload your PTA license with the package; missing either makes you ineligible.
- Submit by 11:59 PM EST on 11/05/2026, and upload documents early because virus scans can take a while.
