Who can apply: The public.

Only U.S. citizens may apply. You must provide proof of U.S. citizenship. The job is open to the public.

Experience: One year of specialized experience that includes dosage or quantity calculations, storing sterile solutions using aseptic techniques, and auditing medications. The announcement says this experience is typical of GS-5 level work, the grade below this job. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, counts, but your resume must clearly describe it.

Education: A half year (9 semester hours) of graduate-level education in a field directly related to the job, such as Pharmacy or Pharmaceuticals. You can also combine education and experience. Add your experience in months divided by 12 and your graduate semester hours divided by 9; the total must be at least 100%. Education must come from a school accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting body, or foreign education must be evaluated as equivalent.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Current and unrestricted Pharmacy Technician certification from a state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 6 days (November 9, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: After the announcement closes, your resume, supporting documents, and online questionnaire answers are reviewed to see if you meet the qualification requirements. Incomplete packages or missing required documents can make you ineligible, and an inflated resume may remove you from consideration.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Your resume must be two pages or less, list hours per week for each job, and show start and end dates by month and year.
  • Upload a copy of your current Pharmacy Technician license or certification, or you will be rated ineligible.
  • If you qualify through education, include transcripts from accredited schools with your application.
