1 Check you can apply You are here
Who can apply: Internal to an agency, The public.
The job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen, a national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. Current federal employees of the hiring agency may also apply, and first consideration goes to current permanent employees of the Walla Walla VA Medical Center.
Experience: Your nursing experience must match a grade level, from Nurse I Level I up to Nurse III, and must be described clearly in your application. For example, Nurse I Level III needs 2 years of professional nursing experience, and Walla Walla cannot hire new graduates, so applicants with less than one year of full-time RN experience will not be referred to the hiring manager.
Education: You must be a graduate of a nursing school accredited by ACEN or CCNE, or a foreign nursing school with a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration. Education can also count toward a grade level, such as an associate degree or diploma for Nurse I Level I, a BSN for Nurse I Level II, or a master's degree for Nurse I Level III and higher. Only degrees from schools accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized body are credited.
Licenses and certifications:
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registered nurse license from a U.S. state, territory, Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 3 days (November 6, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You will be rated on how well you meet the qualifications through the online questionnaire. Your RN experience is reviewed on five dimensions: Practice, Veteran/Patient Driven Care, Leadership, Professional Development, and Evidence/Based Practice/Research, and the agency will not make assumptions about your experience, so errors or omissions may affect consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Describe your nursing duties, dates, and hours per week clearly on your resume or CV, because vague descriptions are not credited.
- Submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment if you want the loan repayment benefit.
- Claim veterans' preference in the questionnaire and attach your DD-214 if it applies to you.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
