Who can apply: The public.
Only U.S. citizens may apply. The job is open to the public, so you do not need to be a current federal employee or member of the military.
Experience: You need at least one full year of professional occupational therapy experience at the GS-11 level. This experience must include evaluating adults, using therapy methods to improve performance, and working with an interdisciplinary team.
Education: You need a graduate or higher degree that included an occupational therapy program approved by ACOTE or another recognized accrediting group, plus the clinical work the school requires. You must also pass the national exam from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Education cannot replace experience for this job. Current federal 0631 Occupational Therapist employees who have worked continuously in this series since September 27, 2017 or earlier are exempt from the degree and certification requirements.
Licenses and certifications:
- NBCOT national certification in occupational therapy
- Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 10 days (November 13, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You are rated on how well your resume, supporting documents, and online questionnaire show you meet the qualifications. If you inflate your qualifications or experience, you may lose consideration; missing documents or information can make your application incomplete.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must be two pages or less, or it will be removed from consideration.
- Include the hours worked per week for each job, or your application may be marked incomplete.
- Upload your transcripts and NBCOT certification with your application, or you will be rated ineligible.
