Who can apply: The public.
Only U.S. citizens, nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply, and you must prove citizenship. Veterans and military spouses are considered along with all other candidates.
Experience: You need at least one full year of professional occupational therapy experience at the GS-11 level. It must include doing evaluations with adult patients, using therapy treatments to improve performance, and working with an interdisciplinary team.
Education: You need a graduate or higher degree from an occupational therapy program approved by ACOTE or another recognized accrediting group, plus the program's required clinical work. Education cannot replace experience at this grade. Current federal employees in the 0631 occupational series who have been in that series continuously since September 27, 2017 or earlier are exempt from the degree and certification requirements.
Licenses and certifications:
- Passed the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) national exam
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 10 days (November 13, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You will be rated on how well your resume, supporting documents, and online questionnaire answers meet the qualifications. If you overstate your qualifications or experience, you may lose consideration, and missing or incomplete documents can make your application incomplete.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Make your resume show month and year dates and hours per week for each job, and keep it to two pages or less.
- Upload your NBCOT certification and transcripts with your application, or you will be rated ineligible.
- Re-select your other supporting documents in USAJOBS, because only your resume is included automatically.
