Who can apply: Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL), The public.

The job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen, national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. Because it is filled through Direct Hire Authority, it is open to all U.S. citizens.

Experience: You need one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level, or equivalent, doing work like documenting medical clearance reviews, coordinating medical testing through civilian contract services, or managing and approving pre-employment exams. Specialized experience means past work closely related to this job.

Education: A graduate or higher degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing program can meet the basic requirement. Education must come from a program accredited by a recognized U.S. accrediting body. Nurses who graduated from foreign nursing schools need certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX)
  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted license as a professional nurse from a U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 5 days (November 6, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: You will be rated on your resume, your online Occupational Questionnaire, and a USA Hire online assessment that measures 11 competencies, including attention to detail, decision making, and teamwork. Overstating your experience or cheating on an assessment can get you removed from consideration.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Make your resume clear and specific, and include all required details such as MM/YY dates and hours per week, since only the first 2 pages are reviewed.
  • Do not copy and paste the duties or questionnaire text into your resume, because it will not count as proof of your experience.
  • Submit your application, questionnaire, resume, and transcript or license copy by 11:59 PM Eastern on 11/06/2026, and watch for your USA Hire assessment link.
