Experience: For GS-3, you need 6 months of general experience that shows you can learn nursing assistant skills. For GS-4, you need 1 year of specialized experience as a nursing assistant or in another medical field, such as LPN or hospital corpsman. For GS-5, you need 1 year of progressively responsible experience equal to GS-4.
Education: One year of education above high school with courses related to nursing assistant work can qualify you for GS-3. Completing an intensive nursing assistant training course of less than one year may also qualify. For GS-4, two years of education above high school in nursing care, healthcare, or a related field can qualify. For GS-5, a bachelor's degree with 24 semester hours of health care courses can qualify. Only degrees from accredited schools count.

3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 25 days (November 30, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
This is an open continuous announcement. The first cut-off date for referring eligible applications is November 9, 2026, and later applications are referred at regular intervals as openings occur.
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You are rated on how well you meet the listed qualifications, based on your online questionnaire and submitted documents. Your application, resume, and supporting documents will be verified, and errors or missing information may lower your rating or make you ineligible.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- The 2-page resume limit does not apply here, but your long-form resume or CV must show clear dates and details of your work.
- If you use education to qualify, send an official transcript and confirm your school is accredited by a recognized body.
- Have your flu vaccine records or exemption paperwork ready, since the flu vaccination is a condition of employment.
