Who can apply: Internal to an agency, The public.
The job is open to the public, but the conditions of employment say you must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Current employees of the VA West Los Angeles Healthcare System get first consideration if they submit a current 2026 SF-50.
Experience: For GS-3, you need six months of general experience that shows you can learn nursing assistant work. For GS-4, you need one year of specialized experience as a nursing assistant or in another medical field, such as licensed practical nurse or health technician; for GS-5, you need one year of progressively responsible experience equal to GS-4.
Education: One year of education above high school with courses related to nursing assistant work, or an intensive nursing assistant course of study under one year, can qualify you for GS-3. For GS-4, 2 years above high school in nursing care, health care, or a related field can qualify you. For GS-5, a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with 24 semester hours in health care, or a bachelor's degree, can qualify you.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
