Who can apply: The public.
The job is open to the public, but the announcement says only U.S. citizens may apply. You will need to prove U.S. citizenship.
Experience: You need one or more full years of professional nursing experience. It must include caring for emergency department patients, assisting with procedures, and giving medications. This experience must match the GS-11 level.
Education: You need a graduate, bachelor's, associate, or diploma degree from an accredited professional nursing program. Accreditation must come from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or another body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Graduates of foreign nursing schools must complete the CGFNS Certification Program. Current federal employees in the 0610 Nurse series employed since September 27, 2017 or earlier are exempt from this basic requirement.
Licenses and certifications:
- Current, active, full, and unrestricted professional nurse license from a U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory
- Passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 32 days (December 3, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your application package is reviewed against the qualifications. It includes your resume, supporting documents, and online questionnaire answers. Missing or incomplete documents can make you ineligible, and claims that appear inflated may cost you consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Attach your transcripts and a copy of your nursing license, or you will be rated ineligible.
- Keep your resume to two pages and list hours per week for each job.
- Submit your complete package by 11:59 PM EST on 12/03/2026.
