Experience: You need at least five years of progressively responsible communications or press experience in government, political campaigns, journalism, public affairs, or a related field. You also need experience acting as a spokesperson and talking with reporters on the record, on background, and off the record. The announcement does not name a grade level.

3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 10 days (November 13, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You will be rated on how well you meet the listed qualifications. The office will use a structured interview. Missing any required information may result in an ineligible rating or a lower overall rating.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your writing samples should show you writing in the voice of a principal, such as a senior official or leader
- Your resume should clearly show five years of qualifying communications or press experience
- Send all three required items: resume, cover letter, and two to three writing samples
