Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply. You will need to prove U.S. citizenship.
Experience: You need one year of specialized experience at the GS-6 level or comparable. This means lab testing, calibrating or maintaining clinical lab instruments, preparing samples, and doing quality control work. The job itself is GS-7.
Education: One full year of graduate-level education in a field directly related to the job, such as Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology. You can combine education and experience, but the two percentages must add up to at least 100%.
Licenses and certifications:
- Certification from ASCP, AMT, or another comparable board as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), required before hire and to keep the job
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
