The job is open to the public, but the announcement says you must be a U.S. citizen to apply. U.S. nationals and people who owe allegiance to the U.S. are also covered by the open listing.
Experience: Basic entry level: six months of experience that shows you can do the work or understand it. Full-performance GS-6 level: one year of specialized experience at the GS-5 level, such as removing soil and body fluids from instruments, inspecting sterilized packages, assembling trays, operating sterilizers, or preparing operating room case carts.
Education: One year of education beyond high school that includes at least 6 semester hours in health care courses, such as sterile processing, nursing assistant, hospital corpsman, operating room or surgical technician courses, or other related courses. A mix of education and experience can also qualify for entry level. Only accredited schools count, and foreign education needs a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents

3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 6 days (November 9, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You will be rated on how well your application meets the qualifications, using the online questionnaire and your documents. Your experience will be verified, and the VA may check references. Missing required information or errors may lead to an ineligible rating or a lower rating.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Describe your sterile processing or instrument cleaning work clearly, with dates and specific tasks, because the VA will not assume your experience.
- The 2-page resume limit does not apply to this job, according to the agency's clarification.
- If you use education to qualify, attach an official transcript from an accredited school showing at least 6 semester hours of health care courses.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
