Who can apply: The public.
Only U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the United States may apply. You must provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
Experience: One year of general experience. This means progressively responsible clerical or office work that shows you can learn medical terms, help complete charts, file documents, and type 40 words per minute.
Education: Two years of education above high school from an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. You can also combine education and experience, as long as the total adds up to at least 100 percent: your months of experience divided by 12, plus your semester hours divided by 60. Transcripts are required. Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization or given full credit by a U.S. accredited school.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 6 days (November 9, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You will be rated on your online questionnaire and your full application package, which includes your resume, supporting documents, and questionnaire answers. If you overstate your qualifications or experience, you may lose consideration, and missing required information can make you ineligible.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must be two pages or less and must list hours per week for each job, or your application may be marked incomplete.
- If you qualify through education, upload your transcript with your application or you will be rated ineligible.
- Your resume is included automatically, but you must re-select other documents from your USAJOBS account or your application may be incomplete.
