Only U.S. citizens, nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply. The agency clarified that applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Education: A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or a degree with enough calculus and advanced science courses, can qualify you. Other options include a current engineering license or passing the FE exam, 60 semester hours of science and engineering courses, or a related science degree plus 1 year of professional engineering experience. Education cannot replace experience at this grade.

- Active Professional Engineering (PE) license in any US state or territory
- Active state driver's license from any US state or territory
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents

3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 10 days (November 13, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume, questionnaire answers and supporting documents are reviewed to see if you meet the qualifications. If the agency finds you have inflated your experience or qualifications, you may lose consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must be two pages or less, or it will be removed from consideration.
- Give the hours per week for each job on your resume, or your application may be marked incomplete.
- If you qualify through education or a license, upload your transcripts or license copy with your application, or you will be rated ineligible.
