Who can apply: Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL), The public.

Only United States citizens and nationals can apply. The job is open to the public and to eligible career transition candidates, such as certain former federal employees whose job was eliminated (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL).

Experience: You need one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the GS-14 level. This includes operational research and decision support for financial management, leading large cross-functional projects, and data management and analytics that supports leadership decisions.

Education: Education may not be substituted for specialized experience at this grade level.

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 9 days (November 13, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: You are rated on your resume, the application questionnaire, and USA Hire assessments that test 14 general competencies, and you must meet a cut score. Candidates are placed in gold, silver or bronze categories, and gold candidates are referred to the hiring manager; overstating qualifications or cheating can get you removed.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Make sure your two-page resume shows your experience in each of the three specialized experience areas, since only the resume is reviewed for experience.
  • Include month/year dates and hours worked per week for every job listed on your resume to get full credit.
  • Set aside at least 2 hours for the USA Hire assessments and complete them before any deadline in the notice.
