Who can apply: The public.
Open to U.S. citizens, non-citizen nationals, and people who owe allegiance to the U.S. The agency says non-citizen nationals must have lived in the U.S. or a U.S. territory for at least 3 continuous years before federal affiliation and must currently live within a 60-mile radius of Fort Lee, VA. Experience: Experience doing the types of maintenance duties described in this job. The announcement does not state a grade level or a number of years.
Education: A high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Proof of education is required when you apply, and missing proof results in an ineligible rating.
Licenses and certifications:
- Valid state driver's license to operate a 15-passenger vehicle, or a commercial driver's license (CDL) with no restrictions to operate a 24-passenger vehicle
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 5 days (November 9, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your application is rated on how well you meet the listed qualifications, using your resume, supporting documents and questionnaire answers. Incomplete applications, including skipped questionnaire items, may be rated ineligible, and overstated qualifications may hurt your consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Keep your resume to two pages or less and show your hands-on maintenance experience clearly.
- Gather your diploma, GED or transcripts before you apply, since missing proof of education makes you ineligible.
- Answer every questionnaire question, because skipped answers can make your application ineligible.
