Who can apply: The public.
The job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen, a non-U.S. national, or owe allegiance to the U.S. Non-U.S. nationals must have lived in the U.S. or a U.S. territory for 3 or more continuous years right before federal employment starts. Only candidates living on Oahu are considered first, and PCS (permanent move) costs are not paid.
Experience: The announcement does not list a number of years or a grade level. It asks for skill in a variety of trades, including journeyman-level carpentry and plumbing, and intermediate-level skill in other trades such as mechanical, electrical, and painting. You must also be able to use tools such as saws, torque wrenches, and meters.
Education: This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
Licenses and certifications:
- State driver's license, or the ability to get one
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 21 days (November 26, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
The first cut-off date is 02 November 2026, and more lists may be pulled after it at the hiring manager's request.
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Applicants are rated on how well they meet the qualifications, based on the resume, supporting documents, and questionnaire answers. Claimed eligibilities must be backed by documents, and overstated experience may hurt your consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Keep your resume to two pages or less and list your trade skills and the tools you have used.
- Claim a NAF preference or priority only if you can send the matching documents, such as a DD-214 or SF-50.
- Live on Oahu if you can, because local candidates are reviewed first and PCS moves are not paid.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
