Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to the public. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. Non-citizens may be hired only if the Library finds no qualified U.S. citizens are available.
Experience: You need progressively responsible experience and training that gives you the listed knowledge and skills, such as collection development principles and writing ability. For GS-9, you also need directly related education and/or specialized experience in the amount required for that grade; the announcement's GS-9 table is only partly shown in the text.
Education: You must meet the library science education requirement. Option A is 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science at an accredited school, after finishing a bachelor's degree. Option B is at least 5 years of combined college-level education, training, and experience that shows knowledge of librarianship. For GS-9, 2 full years of progressively higher graduate education or a master's in library science, or an equivalent graduate degree such as a J.D. or LL.B., is listed as an option.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 15 days (November 18, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You will be rated on an applicant questionnaire and a structured interview, and may also face a narrative or application review or a preliminary phone interview. Items marked ** are the most critical; you must show fully acceptable experience in those to be considered for final selection. Missing required information may result in an ineligible rating.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Upload transcripts with your application, since missing ones lead to disqualification.
- Put multiple files of the same type, such as transcripts, into one file, or only the last one may be seen.
- Preview the online questions and tailor your resume to show experience in the ** items.
