Who can apply: The public.

This job is open only to U.S. citizens, nationals, or those who owe allegiance to the U.S. Current permanent VA or federal employees may apply under a separate announcement, CBTC-13096049-27-DRD, for internal consideration.

Experience: You need six months of work experience that shows you can do the work or understand it, or the equivalent combined with education. For the GS-7 grade level, you need one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Two years as a sterile processing lead technician and two years as a surgical technician are preferred.

Education: One year of education beyond high school that included at least 6 semester hours in health care courses, such as sterile processing, nursing assistant, hospital corpsman, operating room or surgical technician courses, or other related courses. Education must come from a school accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting body.

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 3 days (November 6, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: You will be rated on how well you meet the listed qualifications. Your application, resume and documents will be verified, and you must describe your experience clearly and specifically. Incomplete packets will not be considered, and errors or missing information may lower your rating or make you ineligible.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Use the one-page VA Clinical Resume template from the link in the announcement, since it is required in the restricted Resume field.
  • Your resume must show the month and year for each job and the hours worked per week, or it may be marked incomplete.
  • If you qualify through education, include transcripts from an accredited school, because they are required in that case. The full packet is due by 11:59 PM ET on 11/06/2026.
