Who can apply: The public.

Only U.S. citizens may apply. This announcement is open to the public.

Experience: You need one year of specialized experience at a level equal to GS-11 in the federal service. Specialized experience means developing, coding, testing, or modifying software and automated systems, with specific experience in at least one of Oracle APEX, PL/SQL, Linux, or Javascript. You must also show the four basic IT competencies: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.

Education: Education cannot replace experience at this grade. Education is not substitutable for specialized experience at this grade level.

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 10 days (November 13, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

The agency may close this announcement early or extend it, and it may make selections at any point while the announcement is open.

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: Your resume and questionnaire are rated on how well they show the basic IT competencies and the specialized experience. The best-qualified applicants are referred to the hiring manager, who may interview them. You must complete all application steps carefully, because errors or missing information can lower your rating or make you ineligible.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Describe your work in detail, including any Oracle APEX, PL/SQL, Linux, or Javascript experience and the dates and hours per week.
  • If you use education to qualify, submit transcripts or certifications, since education cannot replace experience at this grade.
  • Check your USAJOBS Application Status after you submit, because missing documents can make your application incomplete.
