Who can apply: The public.

Open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply. You must prove U.S. citizenship.

Experience: You need one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level. This means starting, planning, running, controlling, and closing project phases, communicating with sponsors and agencies, and solving project problems like schedules, budgets, and scope. For GS-12, the year must also include leading an interdisciplinary team of professionals through all project phases.

Education: A bachelor's degree is the basic requirement for your job series, such as community planning, biology, landscape architecture, architecture, physical science, or engineering. The announcement says education cannot replace experience for this job. It still lists a doctoral-degree option and a combined education-and-experience option at GS-11.

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 10 days (November 13, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: Your application will be reviewed after the announcement closes, using your resume, supporting documents, and questionnaire answers to see if you meet the qualifications. If you overstate your experience or leave out required documents, you may lose consideration.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Your resume must be two pages or less and must show hours per week for each job, or it may be marked incomplete.
  • Because education cannot replace experience for this job, describe your project management work in detail with dates.
  • Upload transcripts if you rely on education, and allow up to an hour for uploaded files to clear the virus scan before the 11:59 PM EST deadline on 11/13/2026.
