Who can apply: The public, Military spouses.
Open to U.S. citizens, nationals, and those who owe allegiance to the United States. Military spouses may also apply if their active duty spouse qualifies, or if their spouse is 100 percent disabled or died on active duty.
Experience: You need one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade in federal service. Specialized experience means work that trained you for the core duties of this job. Examples include designing and overseeing large probability-based surveys, presenting complex findings to senior leaders, and managing projects.
Education: For the Social Science 0101 series, a degree in behavioral or social science or a related field works, as does an equivalent combination of education and experience. For the Psychology 0180 series, a major or equivalent in psychology is required, except clinical or counseling psychology. For the Statistics 1530 series, you need 15 semester hours in statistics, 9 more semester hours in a listed field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience. The job also requires 9 semester hours of graduate-level statistics. Education cannot replace experience at this grade.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 6 days (November 9, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
This job will close when 60 applications are received, which may be sooner than the closing date.
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: This job does not use traditional rating and ranking. Your application is first checked for minimum qualifications, then your experience is reviewed against key competencies. Applications are removed if the resume is over two pages or does not meet margin or font rules, or if required documents are missing.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Keep your resume to two pages or less, in PDF format, with at least 0.5-inch margins and 10-point font
- Show work schedule, hours per week, and dates for each job on your resume
- Upload transcripts, because applications without them are rated ineligible
- Apply early because the job may close after 60 applications
