Who can apply: The public.
The job is open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply.
Experience: You need IT-related experience that shows four competencies: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication and problem solving. You also need at least 1 full year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 in federal service, such as implementing cybersecurity programs, working on security investigations involving digital data, advising management on threats, and assessing compliance with cybersecurity controls. The experience can be paid or unpaid, or come from intensive IT training such as a certification. Specialized experience means work with the specific knowledge and skills needed for this job.
Education: Education cannot replace experience at this grade. Education requirements do not apply to this vacancy.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 6 days (November 9, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
Yes. The job closes once 100 applications are received, which may happen before the official closing date.
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You take online competency-based assessments scored from 70 to 100. Top scorers have their resumes reviewed by subject matter experts, and resumes longer than two pages are removed. Overstating your experience can get you removed from consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Top Secret), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must show start and end dates by month and year, plus hours per week, and stay within two pages.
- Clearly show how your experience meets each of the four competencies and each specialized experience statement, since reviewers will not assume.
- Apply early, because the job can close as soon as 100 applications are received.
