Who can apply: The public, National Guard and reserves.

This job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen, national, or owe allegiance to the U.S. You must be a current National Guard or reserve member, want to join, or be a transitioning military member, and be eligible for immediate membership in the Washington Army National Guard at grades E2 to E7.

Experience: You need at least 12 months of experience that prepared you for the duties, such as human resources work, familiarity with Army or Air Force personnel processes, or similar work. You can also qualify with one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-6). General experience is progressively responsible clerical or office work that used computers.

Education: A high school diploma or GED. Education that is used to qualify must come from a school accredited by a body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Valid Washington state and military driver's license

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 26 days (November 29, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: Your resume and documents are compared with your questionnaire answers to check your experience. If you rate yourself higher than your application supports, your rating may be lowered or you may be removed from consideration. The top qualified candidates are sent to the selecting official.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Write your resume in your own words, because copied announcement text will not be considered.
  • Include month and year dates, hours per week, and duties for each job, and keep the resume to 2 pages.
  • Do not forget the Mil Form 174, because applications without it will not be considered.
