Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply.
Experience: You need one year of specialized experience at least equal to GS-4 in this occupation. Examples include phlebotomy, checking patients in for appointments, entering medical information into a patient record system, and maintaining medical records.
Education: For GS-5, you may qualify with a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the job. The announcement also says there is no educational substitution at this grade level.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 27 days (November 30, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
This is an open continuous announcement, so eligible applications received after the initial referral cut-off date of November 9, 2026 will be referred at regular intervals rather than all at once.
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You will be rated on your application materials, your questionnaire answers, and the USA Hire online assessment. The assessment measures nine competencies, including attention to detail, customer service, and teamwork, and you must meet a cut score to be considered. Overstating your experience or cheating on the assessment can get you removed from consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Make your resume show job title, duties, month and year dates, and hours per week for every job, because the agency will not assume anything.
- Set aside at least 3 hours for the USA Hire assessments and complete them within the deadline in your notice.
- If you plan to qualify through education, attach your transcript, since it is required in that case.
