Who can apply: The public.
The job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen who lives within a 60-mile radius of RAF Lakenheath, or will move there within 30 days. You must have a U.S. social security number, and you cannot be 'ordinarily resident' in the UK, meaning you cannot have lived there more than 366 days without a link to the U.S. military. British citizens may not apply.
Experience: You need experience in general clerical or cashier work that shows you can handle multiple tasks and give quality customer service. The experience must also show you can solve common arithmetic problems and make change. You must be able to read, speak and write English. The announcement does not state a grade level for this experience.
Education: Education cannot replace experience at this grade.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 87 days (January 29, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your application is reviewed for how well you meet the qualifications. Your resume and supporting documents are compared with your questionnaire answers, and if you appear to have overstated your experience, you may lose consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Show clearly on your resume any cashier or clerical work, including making change and handling arithmetic.
- Upload proof of any preference you claim, such as a DD-214, along with your resume.
- Submit your complete application, including documents, by 11:59 PM EST on 01/29/2027, because incomplete packages are not considered.
