Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen or national, or owe allegiance to the U.S.
Experience: You need one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 level. Specialized experience means doing safety, reliability, and engineering analyses in process design, piping and equipment design, pile, foundation, and structural design, or fire protection systems. Paid work, unpaid work, and volunteer work all count.
Education: This job has an education requirement in addition to experience. The announcement text does not list the specific degree, so check the General Engineer 0801 qualifications page linked in the announcement. Schools must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For graduate study, one academic year is what your school defines it as, or 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) if you cannot get that definition.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 3 days (November 6, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your application, online questionnaire, and assessments are rated against the job qualifications. You must complete the USA Hire online assessments on 12 general competencies and meet a minimum score (cut score) to be considered. Overstating your experience or cheating on an assessment can get you removed from consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must show start and end dates (month/day/year), hours per week, and your series and grade for each job.
- Submit your transcripts with your application, or your application will be marked incomplete.
- Do not copy and paste the duties, specialized experience statement, or questionnaire into your resume.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
