Who can apply: The public.
Any U.S. citizen or U.S. national can apply. Direct hire authority is used, so veterans' preference does not apply to this job.
Experience: You need one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4, which matches the GW-5 level of this job. Examples include filing documents in a dispatch office, or receiving and processing requests for equipment, personnel, and supplies for wildland fire incidents. Prior wildland firefighting experience is also required. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, counts.
Education: A bachelor's degree, or 4 years of education past high school (120 semester hours) with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a closely related field. You can also qualify with at least 24 semester hours in courses such as forestry, wildland fire science, or natural resources. Education must come from an accredited college or university. You can combine education and experience to qualify.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 9 days (November 12, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You must complete the online Assessment Questionnaire. Your resume is checked against the minimum qualifications, and everyone who qualifies is sent to the selecting official without a numerical rating. If the agency finds that you inflated your experience or qualifications, your score may be lowered or you may be found ineligible.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must not exceed 2 pages, or you will be removed from consideration.
- List the dates, hours per week, and duties for each job, because the announcement specifically asks for them.
- Upload files under 5MB in an accepted format, and do not use encrypted or Adobe Portfolio files.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
