Who can apply: The public.
The job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. Applicants are sorted by hiring preferences such as military spouse preference, outside applicant veteran, and transition hiring preference, and you must prove any preference you claim.
Experience: The announcement lists required abilities instead of a set number of years of work. You must be able to read and follow written and spoken instructions, use hand tools, often lift up to 20 pounds, and stand, walk, bend, and reach for long periods.
Education: Education cannot replace experience for this job. Foreign education can count only if it is shown to be equal to a U.S. education, and U.S. schools must be accredited by a body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Licenses and certifications:
- Food Handler's Certificate, or the ability to complete food handler training
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 10 days (November 14, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your online questionnaire, resume, and supporting documents are compared to decide if you meet the minimum qualifications, and then your questionnaire answers are checked against your resume. If the review finds you inflated your answers to meet the requirements, you may lose consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Make sure your resume clearly describes your relevant work, with dates, before you submit.
- Upload proof for any preference you claim, such as a DD-214, or your application may be incomplete.
- Plan to get a Food Handler's Certificate, since the job requires it or the training.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
