Who can apply: The public.
Only U.S. citizens can apply, and the job is open to the public. Under a special firefighter rule, you must apply before your 37th birthday unless you previously served in a covered federal firefighting job or are eligible for veterans' preference; veterans' preference does not apply under this hiring authority.
Experience: For GS-8, you need at least 1 year of specialized experience (work that closely matches the job) at or equivalent to GS-7, serving as a Firefighter and Paramedic with emergency medical care, rescue operations, and transporting patients to the emergency room. For GS-9, you need at least 1 year at or equivalent to GS-8, including structural and wildland firefighting and hazardous materials response.
Education: This job has no education requirement.

2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 147 days (March 25, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume and supporting documents are rated to see whether you meet the qualifications, and the hiring manager may interview qualified applicants. Unreadable resumes, incomplete packages, or claims that appear inflated can make you ineligible.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Email your resume and certificate copies to mclbb_fire_recruitment@usmc.mil and include announcement number DE-12921735-26-CVW; faxed applications are not accepted.
- Attach copies of all required certificates with your resume, because missing certificates make you ineligible.
- Show dates, hours per week, and federal pay grade for each job entry, and keep your resume to 2 pages.
