Who can apply: Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL), The public.

The job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen, national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. Career transition candidates (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL) and federal employees whose job was eliminated may also apply and get priority over other applicants.

Experience: You need one full year of specialized experience at least equal to the GS-12 level to qualify for this GS-13 job. Experience can come from federal, state, local, or private sector work, and it must show that you analyzed fire and EMS data to find trends, planned national-level data work, and managed data projects to improve quality. Unpaid and volunteer experience also counts.

Education: Education cannot replace experience at this grade.

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 5 days (November 9, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

This job will close once 100 applications are received, which may happen before the official closing date.

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: Your resume is first checked for basic qualifications. Qualified applicants are then rated with the USA Hire Assessment on skills such as communication, technical proficiency, and reasoning. Top-rated applicants may be referred to the hiring manager and called for an interview, and skipping an interview can get you removed.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Your resume must list dates, hours per week, and grade level for each federal job, or you may be rated not qualified.
  • Keep your resume to two pages or less, since longer resumes are removed from consideration.
  • Describe your own work in your own words; do not copy duties from the announcement.
