Who can apply: The public, Military spouses, Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL).
The job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen or national, or owe allegiance to the U.S. Career transition applicants (federal employees whose job or agency was eliminated) and military spouses may get priority or preference.
Experience: You need at least 52 weeks of federal service at or equivalent to GS-4, doing basic financial processing, routine reconciliation, clerical support for return check operations, or coupon and financial documentation work.
Education: Four years of education above high school from an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university can qualify you instead of experience. You can also combine education and experience using percentages.
Licenses and certifications:
- DoD Financial Management (FM) Level 1 Certification, required within 2 years of appointment
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 4 days (November 9, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: HR checks your documents to see if you meet the minimum qualifications, and your questionnaire score is a preliminary measure. If you qualify, you may be asked to complete the USA Hire Assessment within 48 hours after the announcement closes. Qualified applicants are rated Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified, and an incomplete package, a resume over two pages, photos, personal details, or overstated experience can lead to an ineligible rating.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Keep your resume to two pages or less, because longer resumes are removed from consideration.
- List the hours per week and the month and year for every job on your resume, including part-time work.
- Upload transcripts if you use education to qualify, and complete the USA Hire Assessment within 48 hours if invited.
